SVVSD graduating first P-TECH, P-TEACH classes
Talking to people used to terrify Skyline High School graduating senior Genesis Vasquez.
But with the help of IBM mentors through the P-TECH program at her Longmont school, her conversational skills improved so much that she represented a bill at the state Capitol, participated in student panels and spoke at big gala events.
“I don’t think I would be the same person I am today if I didn’t join this program,” she said, noting she wants to go into the medical field. “It helped me grow and learn so much. I am walking out of high school knowing I will have a successful life because of how much this program taught me.”
Along with feeling prepared for her future, she also has the distinction of being among the first students in Colorado to earn an associate’s degree as a high school student through the P-TECH, or Pathways in Technology Early College High Schools, program.
