  • For Hitachi Vantara CIO, Boosting Engagement Takes Center Role

    Hitachi Vantara’s top technology executive has prioritized workplace culture during the coronavirus pandemic, encouraging employees to learn new skills, communicate in different ways and experiment with new technologies that improve virtual collaboration.

    Tim Langley-Hawthorne, who became chief information officer in January, said trying out new technologies and ways of working has been critical as the pandemic lingers on with no obvious timeline for returning to physical offices.

    “The rulebook is still being figured out,” said Mr. Langley-Hawthorne, who succeeds Renée Lahti as CIO, and was previously vice president of technology operations and business management. Before Hitachi Vantara, Mr. Langley-Hawthorne held executive technology and customer service roles at Denver-based Western Union Co.

    Santa Clara, Calif.-based Hitachi Vantara offers digital infrastructure, data and risk management and other technology services for large companies, and is a subsidiary of Tokyo-based Hitachi Ltd.
